Student Life
Internet & Banking in Jordan
Staying connected and managing money.
In short
Mobile coverage is good in cities and along the main highways, with weaker coverage in remote areas. Prepaid SIM cards are widely available and are the usual choice for students on a short stay, with monthly or top-up data packages. Bring your passport to register a SIM.

Home internet
Fixed broadband is available in most urban areas; where a building is not served, mobile data or a wireless package is the fallback. If internet matters to your study, confirm provision before signing a lease rather than after.
Opening an account
Banks typically require proof of identity, proof of enrolment or residency and sometimes a minimum deposit. Institutions can often tell you which bank they have an arrangement with and what documents students need. Having a local account makes receiving transfers, paying bills and handling institutional payments much easier.
Moving money
International transfers carry fees at both ends and are not instant. Establish the cheapest reliable route before you need money urgently, and keep transfer records — you may need them for residency or visa purposes.
Cash and cards
Cards are widely accepted in Amman and in most commercial establishments. Cash matters more in smaller cities and for taxis, markets and informal services, so carry some as a matter of course.
Sources & verification
Priority order: official Jordanian government authorities → official institution websites → accreditation organisations → official ranking organisations → Visit Jordan → other reliable sources. Claims that could not be verified from these are marked as unverified rather than presented as fact.
