International Students in Jordan

What studying in Jordan involves for a non-Jordanian applicant.

Last checked September 2026

In short

Applicants who hold a non-Jordanian secondary or university qualification, and who are not going through the national Unified Admission system used by Jordanian Tawjihi holders. Your route runs directly through the institution's international admission office.

Who this is for

Applicants who hold a non-Jordanian secondary or university qualification, and who are not going through the national Unified Admission system used by Jordanian Tawjihi holders. Your route runs directly through the institution's international admission office.

The two separate decisions

Two things must both happen, and applicants routinely confuse them. The institution decides whether to admit you. The state, through the Recognition & Certificates Equivalency Directorate, decides whether your prior qualification is recognised for the purpose it is being used. Admission does not guarantee recognition, and recognition does not guarantee admission.

Documents typically involved

Secondary-school certificate or bachelor's degree with transcripts; certified translations where documents are not in Arabic or English; passport copy; photographs; language-proficiency evidence where the programme requires it; and any programme-specific documents. Requirements differ by institution, so treat this as a checklist to confirm rather than a fixed list.

Language

The national portal states that applicants are required to provide evidence of an accepted foreign-language proficiency test, with possible alternatives under the university's own rules. Where no test result exists, the portal has described a possible preparatory English programme of six credit hours at the accepting university, subject to required grades. Confirm the current rule for your programme.

What to plan financially

Tuition for international students is normally set on a different schedule from Jordanian students. Add accommodation, transport, health insurance, books, residency costs and living expenses. This portal does not publish tuition figures that have not been verified from an institutional schedule.

Recognition after graduation

If you intend to practise a regulated profession, or to work in a country where foreign degrees require assessment, check that country's requirements before you enrol. This is the single most expensive mistake made in this process.

Verify with the institution and the authority

Requirements in this area are set by institutions and Jordanian authorities, and they change. Use this page to know what to ask, then confirm the current position with the institution's international office and the relevant ministry before acting.

Sources & verification

Priority order: official Jordanian government authorities → official institution websites → accreditation organisations → official ranking organisations → Visit Jordan → other reliable sources. Claims that could not be verified from these are marked as unverified rather than presented as fact.
