Study in Jordan
Student Visa & Residency in Jordan
Entry, residency and what to arrange when.
In short
Students generally enter Jordan on an entry visa obtained in advance or at the border, depending on nationality, and then obtain student residency after enrolment, with the institution's support. Rules are set by the Ministry of Interior and differ by nationality, so the authoritative answer is always yours to confirm with the Jordanian embassy or consulate in your country, and then with the institution's international office.
The general pattern
Students generally enter Jordan on an entry visa obtained in advance or at the border, depending on nationality, and then obtain student residency after enrolment, with the institution's support. Rules are set by the Ministry of Interior and differ by nationality, so the authoritative answer is always yours to confirm with the Jordanian embassy or consulate in your country, and then with the institution's international office.
Before you travel
Confirm your nationality's entry requirements with the Jordanian mission in your country; confirm what the institution provides in the way of admission and residency support letters; and check the validity period of your passport. Be conservative — assuming a nationality-specific exemption applies to you is a common and expensive mistake.
After you arrive
Residency procedures run through the relevant authorities and normally require proof of enrolment, a health certificate in many cases, and valid documentation. Institutions with an established international office handle this routinely; smaller institutions may expect you to manage more of it. Ask before you choose, not after you arrive.
Staying legal
Residency permits have validity periods and renewal requirements. Overstaying or letting a permit lapse can create serious problems. Diarise renewals from day one.
Working while studying
Permission to work is a separate matter from residency and is not automatically granted. If you intend to work, establish the position before you rely on it financially. Confirm with the Ministry of Interior and the institution.
Verify with the institution and the authority
Requirements in this area are set by institutions and Jordanian authorities, and they change. Use this page to know what to ask, then confirm the current position with the institution's international office and the relevant ministry before acting.
Sources & verification
Priority order: official Jordanian government authorities → official institution websites → accreditation organisations → official ranking organisations → Visit Jordan → other reliable sources. Claims that could not be verified from these are marked as unverified rather than presented as fact.
