Recognition & Equivalency of Qualifications
The state process, separate from admission.
In short
Recognition and equivalency is the state's assessment of whether a foreign qualification is equivalent to a Jordanian one for a stated purpose — continuing study, employment in the public sector, professional registration. It is handled by the Recognition & Certificates Equivalency Directorate within the Ministry of Higher Education.
What recognition is
Recognition and equivalency is the state's assessment of whether a foreign qualification is equivalent to a Jordanian one for a stated purpose — continuing study, employment in the public sector, professional registration. It is handled by the Recognition & Certificates Equivalency Directorate within the Ministry of Higher Education.
Why it is assessed at qualification level
Recognition attaches to the specific qualification obtained, from the specific institution, in the specific programme, with the specific study mode. Two degrees from the same university can be treated differently if they were delivered or accredited differently. This is why 'is the university recognised?' is an incomplete question.
The direction that matters before you enrol
If you are going to study in Jordan and then work elsewhere, the assessment that matters is the destination country's, not Jordan's. Check it before enrolling. Every year individuals complete a qualification that their intended regulator will not accept, and there is no remedy afterwards.
Professional recognition is different again
Academic recognition does not confer a licence to practise. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, nursing and law each have their own professional registration requirements, sometimes with additional examinations. Confirm with the professional body in the jurisdiction where you intend to work.
Practical advice
Keep certified copies of everything — certificates, transcripts, course descriptions, credit-hour breakdowns. Course-level documentation is frequently what an assessment turns on, and it is far easier to obtain while you are still a student than years later.
Verify with the institution and the authority
Requirements in this area are set by institutions and Jordanian authorities, and they change. Use this page to know what to ask, then confirm the current position with the institution's international office and the relevant ministry before acting.
Sources & verification
Priority order: official Jordanian government authorities → official institution websites → accreditation organisations → official ranking organisations → Visit Jordan → other reliable sources. Claims that could not be verified from these are marked as unverified rather than presented as fact.
